Kit Mix #149: Yama Warashi
What a trip from Bristolian / Japanese outfit Yama Warashi. Yama Warashi, meaning small child like mountain spirit, are a Bristol based art rock ensemble fronted by Zun Zun Egui’s Yoshino Shigihara. Inspired by Japanese traditional dance, free jazz, African folk music and heavily saturated in psychedelia, Yama are lyrically outlandish and charming, melodically addictive and mythical. Their mix, put together by bandleader Yoshino, is a truly bonkers 1.5 hours of Japanese treasures, together with work from Yoshino's bandmates under other guises (The Evil Usses, Cloudshoes and Dubi Dolczek).
Be sure to check Yama Warashi's great debut, Moon Egg, out on Stolen Body Recordings, and keep an ear out for the follow-up this year! Enjoy.
