Proof that the only real currency in music at the moment is restraint, here is the Micachu-produced ‘I’m Not Dancing’. Micachu left the ragged edges in with her production of this song, and it works a treat, with a homespun-sounding concoction of ropey recorder, organic percussion and ravey bass sounds. Her schoolfriend Tirzah‘s pretty, offhand vocals come to the fore with a sweetness that perfectly balances IND’s grittier layers. Controlled delivery and robust subject matter form the track’s duality – we don’t know whether to take to the floor or take flight. In the end, that slopey bass wins out – Tirzah may not be dancing, but we are. The video is monochrome girl-power personified, too.
