We were joined in the NTS studio this week by the brilliant cellist Oliver Coates, who treated us to a selection of inspirational songs and new material from his myriad of creative projects. This included a gut-wrenching live version of the astonishing ‘Raimondas Rumsas’, from his recent album on PRAH, and an intriguing collaboration with the Scottish vocalist Chrysanthemum Bear. While Oliver spoke eloquently on Bach and Photek, I fumbled with the jewel cases of Jonny Greenwood’s soundtrack to The Master (which Oliver also had a hand in) and Laura Cannell‘s haunting Quick Sparrows Over the Black Earth, forthcoming on Brawl Records. A beautiful two hours, thank you Oliver!
