We’re very proud to present our next release, Suite for Psaltery and Dulcimer by Kit companion Michael Tanner (aka Plinth). Michael’s psychedelic murmurs and swells last rang through Kit towers several years ago, with the decidedly chillier Wintersongs, so it’s great to have him back. This record compiles some of Michael’s work with plucked or hammered string instruments of old English folk tradition – namely the dulcimer and psaltery. Taking cues from strange ’70s new-age cassettes and the shape of the Sussex landscape, Michael also enlisted the wonderful viola player Alison Cotton to add some long, drawn-out resonances to the mix. The result is a work of atmospheric beauty – creeping slowly like frost, before rolling and tumbling like the Downs themselves.
Suite for Psaltery and Dulcimer is out now, on a very limited run of 300 vinyl copies. Each order will stand a chance of receiving one of 25 special editions, complete with linocut by Hove-based Probably Prints, and all downloads include oodles of unreleased music from the sessions. We’ve been quite overwhelmed by the peorders for this, and don’t expect it to stick around for long! Order HERE.
