Here’s a wonderful mix of choral, Texan experimental, rap, British folk, Argentine free jazz and plenty of traditional and contemporary South African music from our very own Cara Stacey. Having recently completed her PhD in traditional bow music from Swaziland, Cara is now throwing herself into a variety of collaborative endeavours, including an upcoming album with avant-garde soprano Juliana Venter, and her ongoing Pergola project with Ninja Tune’s Sarathy Korwar. Not one to rest on her laurels, Cara has also just launched a concert series in Cape Town called Betwixt with her homegirl Nicola du Toit, in addition to projects with Swiss sound artist Luca Forcucci, Mozambican musician Matchume Zango and Mandla Mlangeni. Positive, inclusive and open-armed as the woman who made it, this mix ricochets through genres with unifying enthusiasm.
You can pick up one of the last remaining copies of Cara’s debut LP Things That Grow, which we released through Kit Records back in 2015, HERE.
